Our DWTDS Entries Are A Wrap, Yay!!

Yep, all done and dusted, whew:)  Before I show them to you I better explain the background to our costumes and music.  Most people know Beryl and I are both Australian but New Zealand is home and I thought we'd have a real fair dinkum (oops, sorry, that's an Aussie saying!) Kiwi flavour to our routine.  And you can't get more Kiwi than Footrot Flats which is an iconic cartoon strip that ran for many years in the papers, was published quite a few times in booklet form, and eventually made into an animated movie.  Footrot Flats 'starred' a farmer called Wal and his faithful Border Collie sheepdog called Dog.
The author, Murray Ball, was born in Feilding where we live.

OK, so I'm Wal and Beryl is Dog and we're performing (dancing isn't the best description for our routine!) to Slice of Heaven which was the hit song from the movie.  If you want to check Dave Dobbyn and Herbs singing it have a quick look at this ...

And here is a close up of Beryl modeling part of her costume
Beryl and her bandana
Some more excuses background ... most of you know I get lost going around Rally O and Rally Zoom courses where the stations are not only numbered but also tell you what to do at each station.  So I confess to not having done any choreography except for the beginning and end of our routine.  Funnily enough they are both the same!!  And we nailed them, lol:)  The rest involved a lot of improvisation on both our parts.  At times I go wandering off without Beryl, I've got our next moved planned but forget to tell her what it is.  Other times she'll chuck in a move that she thinks is appropriate.  And I totally forgot to include her marching, duh, and I filmed about 5 different versions.  Enough of my babbling, here is the World Premiere of Beryl and Sue DWTDS - and I think I deserve a medal for my costume, I couldn't have flung anything less flattering together, but I look more like Wal than Wal does lol!

But wait - there's more!  We can't leave Frankie out.  The excuses background for his video is that he had not 1 second of training, no run throughs of things he can do and the choreography is pretty much all his:)  You will notice he isn't wearing the angel wings, they would have been shredded in 10 seconds, lol.

Without further ago here is the World Premiere of Frankie and Sue DWTDS (insert drum roll)

We'd like to thank Honey and Hsin-Yi for coming up with the idea of the competition and all the work they've put into their training tips and videos and the encouragement they've given to those of us who are feeling less than adequate:)  You two are a really special team!

Beryl and I had a lot of fun and we haven't finished yet, I'm determined we'll get the marching thing down and who knows what else?  Frankie had lots of fun just being himself and participating:)

Now we can relax and look forward to watching all the entries roll in and seeing lots of lovely dogs of all shapes and sizes having fun with their people!  You/we all ROCK and are winners because we participated:)

Oh, I love those videos. Beryl is one graceful lady (I love both your costumes, ladies, especially Beryl's wings), and Frankie seems to absolutely love dancing. I especially liked the kisses he gave you, very sweet. Good luck with the competition. I don't know what the other entries will be like, but I think you've got a good chance of winning. :)

P.S. Beryl looks stunning in that photo x

Congratulations!! These videos are fantastic. Your video-editing skills leave me gob-smacked.

I love how refined Beryl is in her dancing - the wings suited her so well. And of course I enjoyed Frankie's crazy energy. You must have had so much fun. Your costume deserves a prize! You are so much fun to watch. :-)

Lots of luck! Shiva and I had our dress rehearsal this morning and it didn't go so well. I am hoping that isn't a sign of things to come...

Oh my gosh! I honestly don't know if I could pick a favorite between Beryl and Frankie's videos! I love them both for different reasons. Beryl is just so darned adorable and refined, and Frankie is so enthusiastic! I think you all deserve a prize! Definitely well done!

Oh Sue!!!! I love it! Just like the others, I wouldn't know which one to choose! (Thank goodness I'm not judging!! :-) ) - they are both ADORABLE!

And I think you really do yourself an injustice, you know - all that stuff you were saying - you belittle yourself and Beryl & Frankie too - you were all fantastic! :-) You were working as a team and having FUN, which is the main thing. It was so lovely to watch! And you actually did TWO routines with 2 different dogs so a big well done for that as well!

Yes, love Beryl's costume - and YOURS!!! HA! HA! I have to say, you are the gamest woman I know, I think, and I really admire you for it - it shows wonderful self-confidence and the ability not to take yourself too seriously - I think you deserve an award for that costume alone - ha! ha!

It was also really nice to see the contrast between the 2 dogs because you used the same music. I think a lot of time people think that unless the dog is whizzing manic, it isn't a good dance but it was great to see Beryl's version and how you could be slow & sedate and still be a lovely dancer! :-) Of course, you just can't get past Frankie's "joie de vivre" - just makes you smile from ear to ear! :-)

Thank you SO much again for all your hard work preparing for our contest - and for supporting us and taking part so enthustiastically! It means so much to us!

Thank-you for sharing your dancing videos, I have a smile from ear to ear, which say a lot for me 'cause I'm such a miserable broad :O

Beryl & Frankie are such nice dogs. I wish that Jersey would want to do something like that.

BTW, nice wellies :)

You three are awesome!! I love Beryl's angel wings. Beryl's "Take a Bow" is great. I use that as Astro's contact command in agility. Frankie did a great job, I can't believe he hadn't even practiced. I love the push that he does with is paws. After watching your videos I think I need to get a little more creative with my guys!

I agree with Houndstooth. Both the videos were great and I'm so glad you did two different routines with both Beryl and Frankie.

BTW, I think you look so adorable in your costume!

Good luck in the contest!

I love that song, and Footrot Flats was a favorite of mine as a kid - mainly because of Dog. I always wanted a Border Collie like him!

They are both very cute, the contrast between dogs is very much like that at our house! Also when you asked Beryl to sit and she jumped up instead! Barbie did exactly the same thing!

Beryl looks like gliding through the routine. Like an angel perhaps :D Very dignified and what a great bow!

I LOVE the spice Frankie has! Every time I see a dog like this I think wow, what a lucky owner to be able to train a dog with this kind of energy! It must be a joy!

Well, I wouldn't be able to choose between these two dancers. As others have said, Beryl is a delicate ballerina, perhaps, and Frankie is maybe a hip-hop star.

That costume is a winner! I loved reading Footrot Flats and I think you looked just like the guy in it, lol.

Hi Beryl and Frankie - I loved your routines! I follow Honey's blog and had to comment on every doggie who danced in her competition. NICE DONE to both of you! I am Indiana "Bones" Taylor and I live in Maryland (USA). I'm a 2 year old chocolate lab and live with my humans Dave and Diane. My human Diane loved every video she saw - notice she is too lazy to train ME to dance :( So for now she will just see all your fun entries.

Way to go you two - it is nice to meet you :)

Your new friend,

Indy Bones
