Well, I've Really Stuffed Things Up This Time!

So, Intense Debate wasn't a success on a few levels, mainly nobody could comment, which kind of defeats the purpose!  But then when I uninstalled it I totally lost my comment box and can't get it back.  I even changed the template but still no go.  But just now I got a comment on a previous post so I'm putting up another post just to see if the comment box returns in a new post.  If it does I promise I'll stop fiddling ... if it doesn't you'll probably see me with a Wordpress blog before long!

And, of course we have to have a photo:)  I just happened to take some nice ones of Beryl on our walk this afternoon.
Beryl loves her Maccas!  The bag was empty, poor Beryl:(
What's Frankie Doing?
Helping Frankie hunt for mice!
Wish me luck, fingers crossed my comment box has found it's way home:)

Oh YAY, it's there, whew!

Yeah comment box is back! I didn't have many issues with intensedebate, only problem I had was some people getting diverted into my spam box

I've heard good things about WordPress. Who can resist Micky fries?

We just want to "comment" that we love today's pictures. (The site does seem to be loading/processing very slowly - it took about ten minutes to leave this note.)

Happy Thursday.

Your comment box is fixed! Huzzah!

I love that second picture of Beryl! She looks like she should be modeling somewhere! I'm a little worried, though, that she seems to have to eat out of bags on the street like a homeless dog! :P

I'm here! I did try to comment on the last one but I couldn't. Thought it was another stupid iPad problem.. It's a pity. I was very excited to see you had commentluv for blogger, which is something I'd love to have too. Based on your experience, I now will go nowhere near it.

But to answer your previous question...

If I ask something on a post, I usually go back to see if there's an answer. I don't find that a bother at all. I love dialogue in comments :) I find it odd to go back to the questioner's blog and answer there because it may have nothing to do with that post and be quite confusing as a result, for other readers.

If you do end up migrating your blog to word press, I will watch intently from the sidelines. I thought of doing that a few months back and chickened out.. I get nervous enough fiddling with the masthead and sidebar!

I do the same as Georgia with regards questions in comments. I always answer any questions in the comments for that post.

Afraid your blog is taking ages to download for me as well. the page opens quickly, but then takes ages before I can scroll up.

Worth the wait to see those fab photos of Beryl. I can't get enough of her:)

Thanks for all the feedback:) I'll try and work out why the pages are loading slowly. It's a bit tricky as they don't for me and I've tried it in 3 different browsers. And I've emptied my cache and history. Must be something there that's not right.

All's working well here. I sometimes just e-mail someone directly if I have a specific quiestion or silly comment...

Oh, I wanted to comment on this topic when I first saw your post but have just been too busy to come by and write anything properly...anyway, wanted to say that I actually think it's better to respond to people's comments in their own blogs - I don't know how other blogs dog it and I know comments are supposed to generate discussion but I find in the doggie blog world, the usual etiquette seems be for people to visit each other and leave their replies on each other's blogs, rather than on their own. I find this is MUCH better as we tend not to return to a post once we've read it and so if the blog owner responds, we usually miss it. So you end up sort of talking to yourself! And your readers might think that you don't ever respond to them! I have often had people respond to me in their own blogs and I just never knew. So most of us tend to return the visit to leave replies, to make sure they see it. It also seems to build more of a community feeling, with more visiting back & forth.

I know Jet has Intense Debate on her blog and it works OK - and I also have a "subscribe" option on my comments so our readers can subscribe to that topic and be notified if I reply to their comments but in general, nobody uses it and I would say most still prefer if you go back to visit them to respond. I think it's like someone calling and leaving you an answerphone message and if you want to respond, you tend to call them back on their number.

I do sometimes respond within my own blog but only if it's some info which I think all my other readers will be interested in too - sort of like an 'addendum' to my post. But otherwise, if it's more specific or personal to that commenter, I go to their blogs or reply via email if they don't have a blog.
